Neonatal Care

Have you cared for a preterm infant who had necrotising enterocolitis and took prebiotics?

Skills / interests: Consumer (public, patient, carer) input

I am looking for a consumer to provide feedback on a Cochrane review, which aims to explore the effects of prebiotics in very preterm (< 32 weeks' gestation) or very low birth weight (< 1500 g) infants for preventing necrotising enterocolitis, a serious gastrointestinal problem that mostly affects premature babies. The condition inflames intestinal tissue, causing it to die.

The protocol was published in 2020:

Cochrane considers a consumer, in this case, to be a parent or carer of very preterm or very low body weight infants. For consumer peer review, we will ask you to complete a short form with your feedback to ensure the review is accessible and relevant so that it will be helpful to patients and their carers/families with healthcare decision-making.

You are welcome to provide feedback on any aspect of the review, or you can focus your attention on the sections you feel are most relevant to consumers and stakeholders, such as Abstract, Plain Language Summary, and Conclusions. Our aim is for this to be a manageable task, that does not overburden consumer reviewers.

Thank you in advance for considering!
